OR DE L’ALBERA society is dedicated to the elaboration and marketing of oil. It began to take shape between 2007 and 2008 and in August 2009 they already put on the market between 12,000 and 13,000 litres of oil – the whole series is numbered-. Our oil mill, which is open to everyone, is in Agullana. Our flagship product is the Via Domitia oil, which is considered the “gourmet” oil in the company and it is included within the Designation of Origin Empordà.
We were a couple of people who owned between 2,000 and 3,000 olive trees and finally we joined with four other partners to make a simple project. We got excited with the idea and reached an investment of a million and a half euros through the purchase of more land and the latest machinery, which is used to press olives better. In the past olives were pressurized with the sacks and part of the oil was lost.
We prefer offering a quality product rather than making 10 million litres. We select the olives well and we do not press them so tightly nor do we use chemicals. The temperature of preparation is also very important as it never exceeds 27 degrees. Others elaborate it at temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees and get more oil, but as I said before this is not our goal. In short, our oil has a lot of essence because there is nothing mixed in it. 90% of the olives are local. Obviously, this means that our oil is not economic, but it is understood that it offers excellent quality.
We believe that if you make a quality product in the long run you are rewarded. The idea is to mark the difference from the rest. Oil is a product that is increasingly opening in the consumer market. For example, during the past Christmas, many bottles were placed in batches. In addition, our company also looks after the image and has the exclusivity of the bottles in Spain.
